If you need to know the statute of limitations in your state, please contact the office of state Attorney General over the phone or online. The statute of limitations depends on the last time the alleged original creditor something agencies. Since you say that is more on the credit report, debt collection agency, probably has an advantage.

I would definitely happen at the original creditor, by phone or e-mail and access information as possible. As these collections to send and must not be in a position to negotiate directly with them.

Make sure that all communication takes place with the collection agency by registered mail. You can try to delete a compensation "to" to pay the debt and the TRADELINE withdrawal from your credit report to negotiate. Of course they are garnishing your wages, the more likely they are not in a position to negotiate.

You need a formal written statement of the collection agency about this debt. If you have no written information, may be a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I included a link to a good brochure Your Rights. Pay special attention to the section Validation - depending on how the collection agency have processed your account, you can have an avenue for more information.
